John Power was appointed Executive Director of The Volunteer Center of San Francisco in May 2002 following three years in which he held roles of increasing responsibility as Corporate Services Director, Managing Director of Programs and Deputy Director. Prior to joining the Volunteer Center, John built a distinguished reputation in the public service and political arenas, serving as Deputy District Director for San Jose Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren from 1995-98. For nine years he was one of Lofgren's chief policy advisors with expertise in health and human services, immigration, environmental issues and civil justice, beginning in 1990 when he first joined then-County Supervisor Lofgren's staff. John received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and in 1989 earned an MBA from Santa Clara University.
