Marcia Argyris, President, McKesson Foundation
Marcia Argyris has dedicated her professional career to improving the lives of children. As the President of the McKesson Foundation for the past 29 years, Marcia has impacted thousands of lives. Over the decades, she has funded countless programs that have enriched children's lives by providing them with the healthcare they deserve, quality after-school programming, and academic enrichment programs.
Twenty-two years ago, Marcia created McKessson's Summer Youth Development Program, which provides 35 low-income youth with summer work and personal development workshops. This program has become a San Francisco model of excellence in youth employment, and Marcia has been instrumental in encouraging other corporations to begin similar programs to help youth secure summer jobs.
Outside of her job, Marcia is a leader too, involved with countless organizations, including board positions with the United Way of the Bay Area, Operation Access, Berkeley Repertory Theater, Council on Foundations, Bay Area Health Funders Work Group, Head's Up, and U.C. Berkeley's Incentive Awards.
One of Marcia's greatest gifts to the community has been her tireless drive to connect nonprofits with like-minded groups and individuals. She has made countless cross-sector connections that have resulted in a stronger, healthier Bay Area.
Marcia's leadership of one of San Francisco's most innovative collaborations, the Building A Healthier San Francisco Coalition, has brought together nonprofit hospitals, San Francisco's Department of Public Health (SFDPH), private foundations, the United Way of the Bay Area and a variety of organizations to promote better health and to create "Health Matters in San Francisco," a one-stop source of information about the health of our community.
For leading by example, The Volunteer Center honors Marcia Argyris as the 2008 Corporate Community Champion for her outstanding work and commitment to our community.
