The Volunteer Center's
2008 Corporate Community Involvement Awardee

Salesforce.com

Salesforce.com was founded in 2000, and philanthropy quickly became a part of its corporate culture. Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff established the salesforce.com Foundation, and soon after the company implemented the 1/1/1 Model, a distinctive new corporate philanthropy model in which all of the company's resources and assets contribute to its communities.

The 1/1/1 Model engages the power of the entire company and its assets through 1% Time, 1% Equity and 1% Product, building deeper relationships with communities and increasing the effectiveness of nonprofits to achieve their goals. Using the 1/1/1 Model, salesforce.com has proven that nonprofits benefit most from the synergies that result from donations of time, money, and product.

1% Equity - When salesforce.com went public in 2004, 1% of its capital was set aside for the Foundation, immediately raising $12 million. As the stock has appreciated, the Foundation has grown, and to date, has donated more than $10 million to nonprofits.

1% Product - Around the world, more than 3,000 nonprofits in 56 countries have received donated licenses of the salesforce.com application, helping to run their organizations more efficiently. A local beneficiary of this service is San Francisco's Project Homeless Connect, which uses salesforce.com applications to track homeless client data.

1% Time - Every salesforce.com employee is given 1% - approximately six days every year of paid time off - to volunteer in their community. Employees are able to choose how and where they volunteer their time, and many create lasting relationships with agencies and nonprofits through this process. Since July of 2000, 85% of salesforce.com employees have collectively donated over 70,000 hours to the community.

At salesforce.com, volunteering begins at the New Hire Orientation, a two-day group orientation which includes at least one half-day of volunteering. Local organizations benefiting from this program include but are not limited to: Glide Memorial, Project Homeless Connect, and the San Francisco Public School system. Throughout the month of December, salesforce.com holds Global Holiday Spirit Weeks, and employees participate in a number of volunteer activities including: working with youth at Community Technology Centers, gift sorting for the Salvation Army, ice skating with youth from after school programs, and building gingerbread houses with youth at Beacon Centers. Salesforce.com employees further volunteer their time with organizations including Family Giving Tree, Project Open Hand and Samaritan House. In 2007, volunteers gave over 13,000 hours at 500 activities in the San Francisco Bay Area alone. Salesforce.com, with its unique 1/1/1 Model of corporate philanthropy, has provided a truly innovative model for others to follow.

The Volunteer Center is pleased to award salesforce.com with the 2008 Corporate Community Involvement Award.
