Have clear written policies and procedures.
- Your policies should reduce risk and danger to all those involved.
- Make up master charts that show where youth volunteers are working.
- Provide parent release forms that describe the nature of the work; make sure you and the teacher agree upon the information provided in the permission slip.
When in doubt, check it out.
- Call your insurance provider and find out if youth volunteers are included in your policy.
- Discuss legal issues with the teacher and the school's legal advisor.
