Information for Youth VolunteersThe Transitional Volunteer Youth Program places over 45 youth with a variety of mental, physical, and environmental challenges between the ages of 14 - 17 in volunteer positions annually. During the school year, the Youth Program Coordinator visits 20 special education classrooms throughout San Francisco to promote volunteering and recruit participants. In collaboration with Jewish Vocational Services (JVS), the Youth Program focuses on special education students, many who are part of the Work Resource Program (WRP), which provides both in and out of class guidance, exposure, and experience to the world of work. There are three ways that youth can participate in the Youth Program. 1) Volunteer Internship ProgramThe Youth Program Coordinator will work with student to find an interesting, appropriate, safe, and challenging internship. The Youth Program Coordinator offers guidance through the interview and application process and support during the volunteer internship placement. Once youth successfully complete their pre-arranged contract, they may qualify for a short-term paid internship through JVS. Through a Volunteer Internship youth can:
2) Service-Learning ProjectsUpon teacher's request the Youth Program Coordinator can arrange one-day group volunteer projects in a variety of fields. 3) Summer Career Exploration Program (SCEP)During the summer up to 15 youth participate in group volunteer projects once a week for eight weeks.
